== The Lunar Exalted ==

There are exactly 300 Lunar Essence Shards. The exact number of each caste is capable of varying by situation. However, as a general guideline:

272 are going to be tattooed Lunars, either within or out of the Pact.
20 are going to be casteless Lunars, who have evaded or resisted tattooing.
8 are going to be chimerae, and will be very dangerous.

=== Age Categories ===

Lunars fall into the following rough age categories. Unlike Sidereals, these categories are generally rather broad and fluid.

FIRST AGE (13): Over a dozen Lunars are survivors of the First Age. These Lunars are between 1600 and 3000 years of age. They skew largely towards the Changing Moon caste, as three castes were merged together into that one, and they were of all five castes once. There are no casteless Lunars of this age.

USURPATION-ERA (70): Lunars between the ages of 800 and 1500, they Exalted in the aftermath of the Usurpation or in the centuries that followed. This age group skews towards Changing Moon, as many of them were young when the new tattooing process was first created, but they are also from just after that time. There are still unlikely to be any casteless Lunars of this group, although there may be a single ancient chimera.

EARLY REALM (150): Those who Exalted in the early days of the Realm or the centuries to follow, due in large part to the large numbers of Lunars killed either by the Contagion or the Balorian Crusade that followed. At this time, castes are likely to be more or less in balance, and there are a couple of chimerae of this age.

RECENT EXALTATIONS (62): Those who have Exalted in the last hundred years, due to the increasing turmoil in the world. Many of these are born from those Lunars caught by the Hunt or otherwise unable to live long enough to protect themselves. Most chimerae are this age.
