This bird of prey is smaller than the eagles but has the same general shape. It has a wingspan of up to 5 feet. The coloration is usually brown upperside and white underside, but numerous variations have been seen. It has a black beak, dark brown eyes and bare legs. Buteo is common in all regions and feeds primarily on rodents but also takes small birds and reptiles.
